rexLetter The CompanyThe story of Forever Living Products begins with one man and an ambitious dream. For years, Rex Maughan had been searching for a business idea that would bring together the two biggest goals in his life: better health and financial freedom. In 1978, he found what he was looking for and invited 43 people to attend the first-ever Forever Living Products meeting in Tempe, Arizona. From this single event, a journey was launched that would lead to unimaginable business success.

What Rex and these first FLP distributors soon realised was that a lot of people were searching for the same things they were. People were tired of hearing the same old prescriptions for how to feel better. They were looking for new, natural alternatives for improving their health. And for many, improving their health was just the beginning. What they discovered was an opportunity that gave them more control over how they spent their time and how they earned an income.

The calibre of our products and the simplicity of our business plan meant that anyone who wanted to could improve their quality of life. Some started out as customers in search of better health products, then grew from satisified customers to FLP entreprenuers. Others saw the business potential immediately and began building a successful organisation. Whatever their reason for getting involved, the results were the same. Their success grew, and they helped others become healthier and wealthier. Today, almost 30 years later, FLP has over 9 million distributors in over 140 countries around the world.

Forever Living Products began its operations in the UK in 1992 and has grown from nothing to being the largest provider of Aloe Vera products in the UK in a very short period of time. Early in 1994, the Company moved to prestigious Longbridge Manor in Warwick as its UK headquarters.

Forever Living Products began its operations in Ireland in 1991, where Rex Maughan purchased the Magheramorne Estate in 2000 as its headquarters; an ideal location to serve an expanding business throughout Ireland.

The Company has won a variety of awards. In April 2007, Forever was presented with the Investors in People award, for a second time running, with excellent reviews that attributed Forever with ‘a very supportive culture, putting people and their well being at the forefront of everything the organisation stands for’ (Evans, A (2007) Investors in People Post Recognition Review Report for Forever Living Products (UK) Ltd).

In 1998 we achieved 12th place in a national survey of the fastest-growing privately-owned companies, conducted by ‘Real Business’ magazine and Dun & Bradstreet. In 2000, the ‘Independent on Sunday’ named the Company as 15th in its annual list of Top Achievers (18 June 2000).

The Company is accredited with the Investor in People Standard, a scheme aimed to improve organisational performance through improved planning, implementation and evaluation of learning and development programmes.

As a member of the DSA (Direct Selling Association), Forever is a holder of the prestigious OFT (Office of Fair Trading) approved logo.

The OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme:

  • Is government backed
  • Supports the role of trade bodies, such as the DSA
  • Raises the profile of the DSA and its members
  • Gives consumers the information to make good decisions and identify that Forever Distributors come under the strict code of conduct of the scheme
  • Enhances the reputation of participating businesses

To emphasis the commitment of Forever to increased consumer protection, the OFT ‘Approved Code’ logo will now be displayed alongside the DSA logo on Forever produced marketing material.

The OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme, customised for the Direct Selling industry, provides:

  • A 14-day cooling-off period during which consumers can cancel the contract (the statutory minimum provides a seven-day cooling-off period for unsolicited visits only)
  • A consumer guide to shopping at home
  • Guidance and training to direct sellers to ensure they act with integrity and do not use misleading, deceptive or unfair practices
  • A free independent arbitration scheme
  • Regular compliance audits and consumer satisfaction surveys with a disciplinary committee to deal with members who not comply with the code

Celebrating a decade in the Managing Director’s position for Iceland, Ireland and the UK, Bob Parker has proved himself to be a great leader with Distributors and staff alike. Under his leadership, the company has grown immensely in the past 10 years. He is always on the road, pushing, promoting, inspiring and motivating Distributors.

At the UK Direct Selling Industry Annual Conference and Awards 2009, Bob Parker was invited on stage to collect the DSA award for leadership.
